# Remove somebody from a project, or leave it

`DELETE /api/v1/projects/{id}/members/{user}`

MCP tool: `remove-project-member`

Removes a member, and their seats on the project's teams. An admin removes anyone, which is also how an open invitation is cancelled; any member leaves with `me`. Declining an invitation is `decline-invitation`. The last admin cannot leave (`409 last_admin`). Tasks they hold keep their holder; `held_tasks` counts the open ones left to reassign.

## Parameters

- `id` (path, required) — The project's `proj_…` id.
- `user` (path, required) — The member's `user_…` id, or `me` for the caller.

## Responses

- `200` — Who was removed, and what they still hold
- `401` — No Flow access token was presented, or it is not valid
- `403` — Authenticated, and not allowed — answered only where the caller already knows the resource exists. A project they are not a member of answers 404 instead.
- `404` — No such project, or none this caller is a member of
- `409` — The last admin cannot leave or be removed
