Practice

Sessions

The daily shape of the method. What to say at the start of a session, at the end, and once a week.

The method has no fixed schedule, but in practice it settles into a few habits. Each habit below starts with a phrase to say to your agent, and each phrase maps to a short, predictable sequence of calls. The agent’s side of every one of them is in the protocol.

Say When What the agent does
“Where are we?” Starting a session Reads the graph and offers the one task at the top
“Let’s do the currency bug.” Picking one up Loads the task and works inside it
“Let’s stop here.” Ending a session Writes back, then tells you in one line what it wrote
“Go through my inbox.” A few minutes free Proposes a line per capture, in one batch
“Weekly review.” Once a week Works through what came due, then asks what is missing
“I’ve been away for two weeks.” After a gap Walks the after-absence order instead of catching up

Starting a session

“Where are we?”

  1. The agent calls get-next. Its one task answers “what should I do next”, and its counts say how many reviews are due, how much has drifted and how many decisions wait on you.
  2. It asks for each slice whose count is not 0, and says what it found: see review.
  3. If a lot is overdue, or you have been away, it suggests the after-absence order instead.
  4. It gives you that one task in a line and asks whether to start it. Ask for more only if you want to choose.

It does not reload yesterday’s conversation, re-read its own notes as if they were the record, or pick a task for you (P1).

Working on one task

“Let’s do the currency bug.”

The agent loads the task with get-task, takes it with its run (works_on) so no other agent works it, works inside it, and writes down anything outside it as an incubated task rather than doing it. See Engage.

Ending a session

“Let’s stop here.”

The agent writes back before it stops (GTF-S3), tidies after the delivery what a standing rule lets it, and tells you in one line what it wrote, naming each task by its link.

A session that ends without this leaves its work only in the conversation, which is where work disappears.

A few minutes free

“Go through my inbox.”

The agent reads list-captures and proposes one line per item, in one batch. You answer by number. Whatever you skip stays in the inbox, and that costs nothing. See Clarify.

Once a week

“Weekly review.”

This is not GTD’s full sweep. It works through the five sources of a review, then the incubated items that should become a commitment now or be dropped, the inbox if there is time, and one question to you: “Is there anything on your mind that isn’t in here?” That is GTD’s mind sweep, and the one step an agent cannot do for you.

After a gap

“I’ve been away for two weeks.”

The agent walks the after-absence order: risks, deadlines, waiting items, blockers, then the one next action. It does not open with the inbox, and it does not try to catch up first.
